Fitz's Fit Family Disney Vacation: Day 3

It was jam packed with a variety of super fun activities that were both totally exciting and totally relaxing at the same time. The majority of day three was spent at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, where we were staying. We capped off a superb day with a glamorous evening at The California Grill, one of Disney's Signature Restaurants located on the top floor of The Contemporary Resort. If you take your family to Disney, I highly recommend strategically placing at least one 'resort day' in the middle of your stay. The theme parks and water parks are amazing, but can be exhausting. Playing at your Disney resort still offers loads of fun, but doesn't drain. In fact, a 'resort day' is the perfect recharge for tired parents needed a break. The pools are wildly creative, the hot tubs....to die for, and the free organized activities are endless. Yes, you heard me right. Most of the Disney resorts offer planned activities for both children and adults.....FREE OF CHARGE! Whooohooooo! 5 Ways to Loosen Up After a Long Day at a Desk

Tomorrow is the deadline for my book, The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook. I'm thrilled with Adams Media for hiring me to write it but on occasion, my body has been very angry at them for giving me such a tight deadline. This uber short deadline has caused little Miss Fitzness Trainer to sit for 12 hours at a time with my head buried in my laptop quite often. My brain is thrilled, but my back has been bummed. The only reason I've survived is because I'm already really good at taking care of my body. I've never had to sit down for such long periods of time as a requirement of my job, but when the side effects of doing so set in ... I knew how to respond. %Gallery-37751% I imagine a lot of you are stuck at a desk for hours on a daily basis. I feel for you. I also have some ideas to help you survive it without all of the stiff, achy and strained body parts. Continue reading 5 Ways to Loosen Up After a Long Day at a Desk

Fit Factor: Make yourself 'fully functional' even if your gym isn't

I'm going to be traveling a few times this month for various reasons, so I'm already looking at my schedule to figure out when I might be able to squeeze in my workouts. According to the website of one of the hotels at which I'll be staying, they have a "fully functional fitness facility." Apart from informing me of their apparent obsession with the letter F, this statement tells me very little about the place itself. "Fully functional" can mean a wide variety of things. And when it comes to fitness centers, it could in one situation mean that it rivals Gold's Gym, while in another it could mean that there's a clunky exercise bike from 1978 and a set of sand weights similar to those that came in the Hulk Hogan Hulkamania Workout Kit I had when I was 10 years old (which also included a jump rope, motivational cassette tape featuring the voice of the Hulkster himself, and -- of course -- a tear-away, kid-sized Hulkamania T-shirt. Thankfully, no pictures remain). If the hotel's definition of "fully functional" is closer to the latter, I can pass on the gym altogether and still get a great body weight workout in my hotel room. However, if the fitness center happens to at least have the very basics (treadmill, weight bench, some free weights), that's more than enough for me to complete the following workout, designed for an on-the-go That's Fit reader by Greenwich, CT-based personal trainer Adrian Garce.30-minute workout1. Before beginning, be sure to do a few minutes of simple stretches.2. Walk on the treadmill for one minute, increasing by one degree of incline every 20 seconds, walking at an average of 3.1 speed.Continue reading Fit Factor: Make yourself 'fully functional' even if your gym isn't

Workplace Fitness: Are some companies taking Wellness Programs too far?

Wellness programs are gaining popularity with employers (about 1/3 of companies in the U.S. now offer them) and for many, it's a real blessing, after all who wouldn't want a free gym membership sitting out there that they can use or not, or free health screenings and flu shots available right on the job site? %Gallery-27216%Continue reading Workplace Fitness: Are some companies taking Wellness Programs too far?

Starbucks revamps its breakfast menu

I make a point of always eating breakfast, but if I have to get it on the run, one place I rarely go is Starbucks. Sure, they have some yogurt and fruit (not to mention those fantastic Americanos), but other than that, the options seem limited to sugary baked goods. Well, good news Starbucks lovers. The gourmet coffee chain is coming out with some new and improved healthier breakfast offerings, currently referred to as Morning Source. USA Today has all the details, but here are some sample items: A protein power plate, available with or without peanut butter. Oatmeal with a variety of toppings, including fruits and nuts. Multigrain rolls with almond butter and/or fruit preserves Bran muffins. What would you like to see on the new menu?(Via Fitsugar)
